Bradford’s Gold Hi-Performance Batts are an easy and cost effiective way to increase the energy efficiency of your home.

Sustainability has always been front of mind at Bradford Insulation, reflecting our commitment to well-insulated homes and energy-saving technology. However, sustainability has moved into the mainstream with the Nine Network’s The Block.

Sustainability is be a big focus of the "Tree Change" season of The Block, which was set in the rolling hills of the Macedon Ranges. The five houses built by the contestants are off the grid with a seven-star energy rating. There’s even an onsite recycling centre for the building materials.

The seven stars are part of the National House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS), which provides guidance on building energy-efficient homes.

Bradford Insulation’s parent company, CSR, is again proud to be part of The Block, providing quality products and expert assistance throughout the show. We help the contestants to build beautiful, sustainable homes that will last well beyond the end of the television season.

Bradford Insulation has been a particularly big part of The Block's projects, ensuring that that all the homes will be energy efficient through the specification of a variety of insulation products.

Scotty’s house

In a first for the show, host Scott Cam will be leading by example, renovating an original circa 1868 homestead Scotty has a three-month head start on the contestants, so he’s well into the renovation by the time the teams (and the cameras) arrive.

He’s working with previous contestants Duncan Miller and Spence Thomson, to help make his dream a reality.

Spence is a Carpenter and fully committed to sustainability. He and his partner Kerrie Charter recently bought 120 acres of land in rural Victoria to build their fully off-grid ‘forever home’, called the 4Sheds Project.

With a view to increasing the energy efficiency of Scotty’s home, he and Duncan (another former contestant) included Bradford’s Gold Hi-Performance Batts as part of the build.

Made for Australian conditions, Bradford Gold™ Hi-Performance insulation for walls can reduce energy used for heating and cooling by up to 20%, leading to a decrease in your energy consumption and in your energy bills.

Scotty’s house used R6 ceiling batts in the roof and R2.7 in the walls.

“They are super easy to install,” says Spence, who adds that Bradford Insulation was used on all the homes of The Block to ensure superior energy performance.

“All you need is the right knife and the PPE,” he adds. “They are easy to work with and they go in nicely.”
