Optimo Underfloor Insulation - Flooring Insulation

Bradford Optimo™ is the ultimate in underfloor insulation for suspended timber floors, keeping homes warmer and reducing energy costs through winter.

Most Australian homes have ceiling insulation and new homes now also include wall insulation which is installed at the time of construction. However, for homes with suspended floors, it is one element of the envelope that may not be insulated and this can contribute to as much as 20% of heat loss in winter. Bradford's Optimo Underfloor insulation is the solution, allowing you to address this neglected area and maximise your home's comfort and energy efficiency.

A polished timber floor looks warm and inviting – but looks can be deceiving. Without insulation, your flooring material is the only thing between you and the elements. Heat can be lost and draughts can enter through the floorboards making your home cold and uncomfortable. Bradford Optimo provides a barrier to reduce heat loss and cold draughts entering through gaps in the flooring.

What safety precautions should I take to install Optimo?

  • It is recommended that all the packs required for the job be taken to the sub-floor area. Start fitting the insulation from the furthest point from the sub-floor access.
  • Bradford recommends that the power be turned off the home at the fuse box before starting underfloor insulation installation, and that you place a warning tag on the fuse box to prevent the power being switched on until the installation is completed.
  • Care needs to be taken to ensure any electrical cables or fixtures are not disturbed. If electrical cables or plumbing pipes run along the length of the floor joist, the Optimo strap can be fixed to the SIDE of the joist and an “L shape” formed at 90° so as to avoid contact with wiring or pipework. If electrical wiring are covered by insulation partially or completely it may overheat. If in doubt please seek advice from a licenced electrician.
  • Care needs to be taken not to block ventilation openings at the side of the house.
  • For comfort Bradford suggests that long sleeve shirts be worn along with gloves, goggles and approved dust masks. Please refer to the pack for more details.
