FAQs

How can I cut Bradford PIR Boards?

To reduce dust it is recommended to use a trimming knife rather than a saw when cutting boards, however if cutting by a saw is required, it is advisable to wear suitable respiratory protection and safety eyewear to avoid inhalation and eye contact of foam dust which can be generated during mechanical cutting.

Do the joints between Bradford PIR Boards need to be taped?

It’s good practice to seal Bradford PIR Boards’ joints with an approved aluminium foil tape. Sealing joints controls moisture and smoke penetration, improves the airtightness of the building envelope and assists in providing a consistent finish in exposed applications. When the boards abut with other construction elements it is good practice to seal these joints with a low modulus silicon sealant.

How can I ensure good adhesion is achieved when taping Bradford PIR Boards’ joints?

Surface preparation is always required when taping. All surfaces must be free of contaminants such as oils or dust. The surface must be cleaned with a clean dry cloth before applying the adhesive tape. Where a surface is unable to be cleaned effectively with a clean dry cloth, or if oil containments are present, scrub with a 50:50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water until clean. For more information, please refer to the installation guide.

How durable is Bradford PIR Boards?

Bradford PIR Boards are dimensionally stable, rot proof and will remain effective for the life span of the building, dependent on specification and installation. Care should be taken to avoid contact with acids, petrol, alkalis and mineral oil, when contact is made, clean materials in a safe manner before installation. Solvent based adhesives containing methyl ethyl keytone, should not be used.

How are Bradford PIR Boards packaged?

Bradford PIR Boards are wrapped in polythene packs and each pack is labelled with details of the Bradford PIR Boards’ size, number of pieces per pack and the material R-value.

How should I store Bradford PIR Boards?

Bradford PIR Boards should be stored off the ground on a clean flat surface. Bradford PIR Boards must be stored undercover. The polythene wrapping is not considered adequate protection for outside exposure.
