Non-Permeable Product Solution

Bradford Thermoseal

Thermoseal reflective foil wall wraps are non-permeable, vapour barrier products designed to reduce the transmission of moisture into the home. They are able to contribute a reflective air gap R-Value to the wall system when positioned to adjacent to an inward or outward facing air cavity.

These products are recommended for use in warmer climates where the risk of condensation formation exists as the temperature of the outside environment rises, while the inside of the home is cooled.

  • Improves the R-Value of the wall system by contributing a reflective air-gap R-Value
  • Reduces the transmission of water vapour through the building structure*
  • Improves energy efficiency by reducing draughts allowing insulation to work more effectively
  • Protects the building frame from decay by reducing the entry of wind driven rain and dust.

*If the membrane is to provide a continuous vapour barrier, all joins, penetrations and discontinuities should be sealed.

Bradford's Thermoseal™ range of wall wrap products provide a secondary protective skin to your home which can reduce draughts and help make your home more comfortable.

Thermoseal Reflective foil laminates are pliable, vapour barrier products that can provide an additional R-Value to a building system by using an air cavity (an air void in the building frame) to create an R-Value as part of the total wall construction. The type of wall construction, use of bulk insulation (wall batts) and the required air-gap R-Value from the wall wrap will determine the type of wall wrap that is suitable to the application.  

The Thermoseal Wall Wrap range is predominately comprised of non-permeable polymer and paper reinforced reflective foil laminates. This range of tough yet lightweight wall wrap products is suitable for use in residential timber and steel framed construction.

As a general guide, reflective foil laminates require an air cavity adjacent to the reflective surface in order to generative an air-gap R-Value. Where the stud frame is filled with bulk insulation making contact with the wall wrap or the cavity between the wall wrap and the external cladding is eliminated, the wall wrap is unable to provide an air-gap R-Value.

As a result, it is important to select a wall wrap that has the reflective surface positioned on the correct side to contribute the desired thermal value in addition to the other protective benefits offered by the wrap.

Breather Products

Where air transfer from each side of the membrane is required and ‘unclassified’ water barrier properties are acceptable (these products are not water barriers), Thermoseal Wall Breather is an available option. This product is not a vapour permeable product, but maybe a suitable substitute in some climate zones for specific construction types, to allow some level of air transfer between each side of the wall wrap. Always check the cladding manufacturers recommendations prior to use.

CSR Bradford offer a range of technical services including condensation modelling for project or climate specific applications by different construction types – advice should always be sought regarding high humidity environments such as indoor swimming pools or spas.

  • Provides compliance to BAL bush fire ember attack requirements in accordance AS3959 by providing a secondary form of ember protection for the roof space – all products comply with a flammability index of less than or equal to 5 when tested in accordance with AS1530.2.

Benefits during construction

  • Protects the building structure from the elements prior to the application of the roof tiles, which limits water damage to internal structural components;
  • Improves on-site work flow efficiency by allowing some internal trades to commence work before the roof tiles are applied.

  Wall Wrap XP -Boost your wall insulation Wall Wrap XP is polyweave building membrane for use where there is insulation filling the internal stud cavity and an external building air cavity exists. Wall Wrap XP provides an outward facing reflective air-gap R-Value using a unique patterned outward facing antiglare surface to complement the stud wall insulation. 
LOW VAPOUR PERMEABILITY  Wall Breather#  Wall Breather is manufactured with tiny holes to allow air exchange between each side of the membrane, is ‘unclassified’ as a water barrier and provides an inward facing reflective air-gap R-Value. Note: This product is not recommended for use in colder climate applications in conjunction with higher levels of insulation – for lightweight clad applications, refer to cladding material manufacturers recommendations prior to use. Low permeability - 0.018μg/N.s

Applications with bulk insulation:

Where the stud frame is filled with bulk insulation making contact with the wall wrap and there is an air cavity (minimum 25mm) between the wall wrap and the external cladding, Thermoseal Wall Wrap XP is recommended. This innovative, patterned outward facing antiglare wall wrap relies upon the air gap between the frame and cladding to produce an air-gap R-Value, allowing the insulation batts to be positioned hard up against the inside face of the wrap. Alternative – Thermoseal Roof Metal Wall

Applications without bulk insulation:

Where the stud frame is not filled with bulk insulation, the void in the frame can be used to generate an air-gap R-Value using Thermoseal Resiwrap or Thermoseal Wall Wrap.

Use of ‘breather' products:

Where air transfer from each side of the membrane is required and ‘unclassified' water barrier properties are acceptable, Thermoseal Wall Breather is an available option. This product is not a vapour permeable product, but maybe a suitable option in some climate zones for specific construction types when specified by a qualified person.
