Offices

By their very nature office buildings are hives of production with a high density of occupation. For optimum productivity it is important that the environment in the building is comfortable, healthy, well lit and quiet. However the running costs of the building are of great concern to lessees and building managers and increasingly companies are concerned about the environmental impact of their operations and are looking for buildings which are energy efficient and maximise the use of natural resources such as light and ventilation.

The Building Code of Australia (BCA)/National Construction Code (NCC) makes provisions for energy efficiency, sound insulation and fire protection for office buildings. They recognise that well insulated buildings that control heat and cold, along with good acoustic insulation are important elements of good building design. Well insulated office buildings are more energy efficient, healthier and quieter – helping to meet the needs of both employees and lessees.

Where the BCA/NCC does not specifically cover offices, such as sound insulation provisions, there is a strong argument to support the voluntary inclusion of high standard sound insulation to improve worker effectiveness. Fortunately, bulk insulation products used to achieve wall insulation energy efficiency provisions also provide excellent acoustic protection.

The Bradford DesignSmart calculator has been developed to assist designers, specifiers, builders and contractors to choose the right insulation product for their application, in order to both meet the BCA/NCC requirements and to provide a more sustainable, functional and economical project solution.
