Low Rises

Insulation in medium density apartments, townhouses and duplexes has received minimal attention over the years in Australia despite it being critical to ensure isolation of noise and prevention of the spread of fire. This changed with the introduction of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) Sound Insulation Provisions in 2004 and Energy Efficiency Provisions in 2006.

The Building Code of Australia (BCA)/National Construction Code (NCC) now makes provisions for minimum insulation levels for energy efficiency, acoustic performance and fire protection for low Rise Apartments under Class 2. Individual state variations compliment the national BCA/NCC building requirements.

The Bradford DesignSmart calculator has been developed to assist designers, specifiers, builders and contractors to choose the right insulation product for their application, in order to both meet the BCA/NCC requirements and to provide a more sustainable, functional and economical project solution.
