Introduction
This tool will guide you through the selection of the right insulation to meet the requirements of section J5.4 of the Building Code of Australia.
The tool will generate a PDF file that will be sent to your email address that contains the following information
- Project information
- Design Details
- Product selected for project
- Performance of selected product
- Compliance certificate
- Specification
- Links to relevant data sheets and MSDS
Selection of Building Class
Simply choose the building class applicable to your project. This description of the building classes can be found in the Building Code of Australia Volume 1 - Part A3
Selection of Climate Zone
Simply select the climate zone applicable to your project. The classification of climate zones can be found in the Building Code of Australia Volume 1 – Figure A1.1 & TableA1.1. This information can also be found on the ABCB website (links provided)
SPI options
To determine the total R value of pipework there are a number of options that need to be considered. The total R values are determined from the Building Code of Australia Volume 1 -Specification J5.4, particularly table 2. The options used by the DesignSmart tool are the same listed in Specification 5.4 of the BCA. Simply select the capacity of the system, the type of system and then where it is to be used.
Bradford recognises that there are possible interpretations in the options presented by the BCA. It is critical that designers contact the project certifier to discuss project requirements and confirm options.
It is also advised to contact associations like the Air Conditioning and Mechanical Contractors' Association of Australia (AMCA) or the Thermal Insulation Contractors Association of Australia (TICA) who have prepared information on interpretation of these options.
Product selection
To assist in the selection of the right product the DesignSmart tool will filter all Bradford products that meet the project design requirements.
Project information
The DesignSmart tool generates a PDF that is sent to your email address, in the tool is provides the project details so the stand alone document can be sent to contractors, certifiers etc if required. We ask that you enter the project information as it is presented on the PDF for your convenience.
