Bradford Insulation: Your Industry Experts

If you’re thinking about having home insulation installed, and taking advantage of the Federal Government’s Rebate, you need advice from someone you can trust. Like Bradford.

It’s also very important to consider your options. Not all products or installers are equal. Non-compliant or poorly installed product could pose a fire hazard for your home, and reduce your homes energy efficiency.

Here are six important checks to keep in mind when considering your home insulation.

PERFORMANCE

The effectiveness of home insulation is measured by its ‘R-Value’. The higher the R-Value, the better the product’s performance. As the Government now requires two quotes in order to qualify for the rebate, some installers may only promote or stock products with the lower eligible R-Values.

A quote may be the lowest, but it may not be the best option for you and your home.

STANDARDS

Ensure the product you choose has passed Australian Standards and will perform for the life of your home. Don’t take the installer’s word for it. Look at the manufacturer’s product brochures and make sure they state that the insulation complies with Australian and New Zealand Standards. If a product complies, the installer should be able to show a certificate as proof.

If you have any doubts, always call the manufacturer - who is obliged to provide proof.

WARRANTY

Ensure the supplier you choose is willing to back the safety and performance of their product and installation by way of a comprehsive warranty. See if the installer is able to provide a warranty certificate for the product’s performance, as well as an additional warranty on the quality of the installation.

If they are willing to provide a warranty, make sure this is backed by a reputable company that will be there if anything does go wrong.

SAFETY

Non-compliant or poorly installed insulation can pose a fire risk for your home. So, for added peace of mind, it’s crucial to check that the product you’ve chosen is non-combustible.

Only some products offer the added security of having passed Australian Standards for non-combustible building materials. This information would usually be stated on either product literature and/or on warranty certificates. Don’t just rely on verbal confirmation from an installer. If you have any doubts, always call the manufacturer.

RESEARCH

Take your time in finding the right solution, and be sure to shop around.  You must obtain two quotes to be able to claim the rebate. It’s important to make sure that you explore all of your options prior to contacting an installer.

Remember, you can only get the rebate once – so making the right choice is essential.

Top tips from Bradford:

  1. Whilst many installers will provide quotes that are often significantly cheaper under the two quote requirement, always remember that just because the service could be free under the current rebate, you may not always be getting the best option for the performance and safety of your home.
