Minister for the Environment, Peter Garrett officially opens Brisbane’s new gold class insulation plant

Demand created from the Australian Government’s Energy Efficient Homes rebate has driven Bradford’s new Brendale plant, in Queensland, into 24 hour operation, increasing jobs and production, to assist in the government’s aim to provide ceiling insulation to an additional 2.9 million Australian homes by 2012.

From 1 July, the Energy Efficient Homes Package will offer free ceiling insulation to Australian homes*, cutting household energy bills by an average of $200 a year and reducing greenhouse gas emissions; equivalent to taking over half a million cars off the road.

Today, Minister for the Environment, Peter Garrett officially opened the Bradford Gold insulation plant, a manufacturing operation utilising world class technology to minimise emissions and drive energy efficiency.

Bradford General Manager, Anthony Tannous stated the Energy Efficient Homes Package has launched Bradford into a new and exciting phase of business, approaching the company’s 75th year, standing by its long term commitment to Australian manufacturing, job creation and driving energy efficiency.

“Since the first bag rolled off production in 1934, Bradford has created jobs for thousands of Australians, insulated more than one million homes, created energy bill savings of over $200 million and reduced Australia’s carbon dioxide emissions by over one million tonnes,” said Mr Tannous.

Bradford Comfortchoice home energy efficiency solutions, combining Bradford Gold home insulation, Edmonds ventilation and draught control, save up to 50% of heating and cooling costs in a typical two storey house, compared to an uninsulated home, reducing energy bills and driving greater energy efficiency to help combat climate change.

Bradford’s commitment to sustainability also extends to its Bradford Gold batts, with every pack containing up to 80% recycled glass (including recycled bottles), and including very low embodied energy and low VOC (volatile organic compounds). The plant recycles all water in the manufacturing process, working towards a long term goal of zero waste.

“The official opening of Bradford’s Brisbane plant is a landmark event for us, and would not have been possible without the ongoing support of the Queensland State
Government, and specifically the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation, EPA and Moreton Bay Regional Council; all have assisted us greatly in turning our vision into a reality,” concluded Mr Tannous.

Householders and landlords hoping to take advantage of the Energy Efficient Homes Package, and receive free ceiling insulation to the value of $1600 and $1000 respectively, can contact Bradford on 1800 850 305  or visit www.bradfordinsulation.com.au
