You may qualify for free insulation under the Energy Efficient Homes package offered by the Australian Federal Government. With rebates of up to $1,200, most eligible home owners will not have to pay a cent for ceiling insulation.
What are the Government rebates for ceiling insulation?
The Home Insulation Program is a key part of the Energy Efficient Homes package. It offers free insulation to the value of $1,200 to homeowners, landlords and tenants. To qualify for the rebate, you must have the insulation jobs completed by a registered installer, who will claim the rebate from the Government.
The program targets homes that are currently uninsulated, or have very little ceiling insulation and were built before the mandatory thermal performance requirements under the Building Code of Australia were introduced commencing in 2003.
The program commenced on 3 February 2009 under a rebate scheme. From 1 July 2009 to 31 August 2009 there were separate arrangements for owner-occupiers and rental properties. The current program now covers all eligible households and is in effect from 1 September 2009 to 31 December 2011 or until the date when Program funds have been fully allocated, whichever occurs first.

Guidelines for insulation installed prior to 1 July 2009
Householders who installed insulation in the early installation phase (after 3 February 2009 but before 1 July 2009) can apply for assistance via the rebate application process outlined in the Early Installation Guidelines, for up to six months after the date of installation. Early installers required the labour and insulation to be initially paid for by the building's owner and later reimbursed by the Government.
Guidelines for insulation installed prior to 1 September 2009
If your insulation was installed before 1 September, you can still receive a rebate under the earlier Homeowner Insulation Program (or the Low Emission Assistance Plan for Renters).
Transitional arrangements are in place if you pre-booked installation to occur between 1 September and 30 September.
